On Wednesday we took our crew to the Jacksonville zoo.

Sam loved the zoo map.


Feeding Naomi the giraffe was a highlight.  Each boy got a small leafy branch.
Elijah made her work for his branch. Her loooong purple tongue reached through the fence and pulled all the leaves off then ate the branch too. Elijah was surprised that she ate the twig as well.
Sam put down his map long enough to feed the giraffes too. =)

It was a beautiful zoo. Many trees, flowers and butterflies.
A lot of the walk ways were shaded by trees.
Plumerias!  I love these flowers so much they decorated on our wedding cake.

After lunch we spent some time at the splash pad. So fun. The boys loved it.

The only reason Elijah is sitting so nicely trying to hold the other two close is that he knew after this picture we were going to get snow cones!

The Year is 1864

It was gorgeous the day we visited Fort Clinch.
The fort is located on Amelia Island on on the GA-FL border.


One of the first questions Elijah asked was who was on the "good side" and who was on the "bad side." Patrick later told him "You know Elijah, the thing you have to remember is that in any war there are good guys and bad guys on either side. And a lot of mothers don't have their sons coming home."

Ethan was very interested in the Cobbler's station.

We learned that a washer women made twice as much as a soldier in the Union Army. They could also make extra money by ironing, and by making and selling candles and soap.

After almost a week of rain from tropical storm Debby...

In which we saw some strange creatures in our yard... box turtles?
or a giant caterpillar?
oh, it's my children!
While we were happy to have our garden and flowers watered for free all week we were so happy to see the sunshine return yesterday.
The boys kept wanting to come inside the house but their mother kept saying "No, we need to play outside while the sun is shining!"
